Active Warrants in Jackson County
Active warrants in Jackson County are issued by the 16th Judicial Circuit Court and, in city cases, by the municipal courts. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office serves and enforces county warrants. Kansas City Police and other city departments serve warrants that come out of their own municipal courts. Once a judge signs a warrant, the case file shows the issue date, the charge, and the bond if one is set. Most warrants are entered into the state warrant system within hours.
The public-facing tool for searching active county warrants is the Zuercher warrant portal at jackson-so-mo.zuercherportal.com. The portal pulls from live sheriff data. The list updates as new warrants are issued and old ones are recalled. A warrant can be served at any time, including evenings and weekends. A name that appears on the list one day may be gone the next if the person has been arrested or the court recalls the warrant.
Types of Jackson County Warrants
Not every warrant is for an arrest. The court issues several different kinds of warrants and warrant-like process. Each has its own trigger and its own way to clear.
- Arrest warrant - Issued on probable cause for a new criminal charge, often after a complaint or indictment.
- Bench warrant - Issued by a judge when a person fails to appear, violates probation, or fails to comply with a court order.
- Search warrant - Authorizes officers to search a place or seize property. Usually sealed before execution and not on the public warrant list.
- Capias / capias pro fine - Warrant-style process used in some courts when a person fails to appear or fails to pay court costs and fines.
- Fugitive warrant - Issued for a person wanted in another county, state, or by federal authorities; may involve an extradition hold.
How to Search Jackson County Warrants
The official county portal is the Zuercher warrant search. The screenshot below is from the live portal.

The interface shows a search panel at the top and a results table below.
- Open the warrant portal and accept any disclaimer.
- Enter at least one search field. The portal may require criteria before it enables the Search button. Name is the most common.
- Adjust the Date Issued range if needed. The default may be set to today, which can hide older warrants.
- Click Search to view results. Open a row to see charge, bond, and any comments if the portal shows them.
- Confirm any hit by calling Criminal Records or the Sheriff's Office before acting on it. The portal is a starting point, not a final word.
For warrants issued by Kansas City Municipal Court, Independence Municipal Court, or one of the other 15 municipal courts in the county, contact that court directly. Those warrants do not always appear in the county Zuercher portal.

What a Jackson County Warrant Record Shows

The warrant page does not show photographs. For a booking photo after arrest, see the Jackson County arrest records page or the inmate portal. For the full underlying case, look up the case on Missouri Case.net.
Bond on a Jackson County Warrant
Many Jackson County warrants list a bond amount. The bond is set by the judge and lets the person post and be released after arrest. For 16th Circuit cases, bonds are posted at Criminal Records, 1315 Locust, Kansas City, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Bond verification is done by phone before posting. Call 816-881-4201 option 5 to confirm the amount and again after posting so the Records staff can process the release.
Some warrants are no-bond warrants. Those usually involve probation revocation, certain violent felonies, or a court order to hold the person until a hearing. Jackson County does not take Kansas City Police Department bonds. For those, call 816-234-5180. Card payments are also accepted online at accesscorrections.com and by phone at 1-866-345-1884.
What to Do If You Have an Outstanding Warrant
An open warrant means you can be arrested at any time. The smart move is to act before officers find you. Pull the warrant record first. Note the issue date, the charge, the bond, and the issuing court. Then talk to a lawyer. The Missouri State Public Defender covers indigent criminal defense and the Jackson County public defender office can be reached at 816-889-2099 from court notices.
Important: Talk to a lawyer before you turn yourself in. Old warrants, out-of-county warrants, and serious felonies can carry consequences that a public list does not show.
If you decide to surrender, bring photo ID, a list of any medications, your attorney's contact info, and bond funds if the bond can be posted at booking. After the case is resolved, confirm the warrant has been recalled on the court docket. Clearance may not show up instantly in every system. See Jackson County court dockets to verify the recall entry.
Confirming a Jackson County Warrant Hit
A name match on the public portal is not the same as a confirmed warrant. Two people can share the same name and similar dates of birth. The court file controls. Always confirm by calling Criminal Records at 816-881-4351, the Sheriff's Office at 816-541-8017, or the issuing municipal court. Pull the full case on Case.net for the underlying charge, division, and next hearing.
If the public portal shows no warrant but you believe one exists, that may mean the warrant is sealed, the warrant is held by a different agency, or the entry is delayed. The portal updates often but not in real time.
Restricted Jackson County Warrant Records
Not every warrant is public. Sealed warrants, including most search warrants before execution, do not appear in the public list. Juvenile warrants are confidential under RSMo § 211.321 and do not show up on the public side. Federal warrants are held by the U.S. Marshals Service and the federal courts, not by the county. Out-of-county warrants may or may not appear depending on the agency's data sharing.
For records that have been expunged under RSMo § 610.140, the related warrant and case are closed and should not show up in the public index.
